2027 Silverado HD Overview

The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado HD keeps the look of the truck you know and changes what's underneath. The headline is an all-new 8.3L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 making 555 horsepower and 1,230 lb-ft of torque, which GM rates as best-in-class diesel horsepower and torque. The standard 6.6L gas V8 gets stronger too, and the steering and brakes are new. The 2500 HD starts at $49,995 including destination. Knudtsen Chevrolet in Post Falls, Idaho is taking questions now from heavy-duty buyers across Coeur d'Alene, Spokane and North Idaho.

This page covers the whole lineup. For trim-by-trim prices and what Chevrolet has confirmed for each trim, see our 2027 Silverado HD trim levels guide.

What's New for 2027?

Four big things change for 2027: a new diesel, a stronger gas V8, electric power steering and electronic brake boost. Chevrolet says the outside may look familiar, and Edmunds reports the sheetmetal and interior carry over. The money went into the parts you feel when the truck is loaded.

The 6.6L Duramax diesel is gone. In its place is the 8.3L Duramax V8, which GM calls its first clean-sheet heavy-duty V8 designed, developed and manufactured in-house. It makes 85 more horsepower and 255 more lb-ft than the 6.6L Duramax it replaces.

The standard 6.6L gas V8 now makes 412 horsepower and 472 lb-ft, up from 401 and 464.

Hydraulic power steering is replaced by an electric rack-and-pinion system, and a new electronic brake booster (GM calls it eBoost) feeds bigger front brakes. GM says both are firsts for the heavy-duty segment.

The ZR2 adds a new Terrain Mode for one-pedal off-road driving, and the Trail Boss package is offered on the HD Custom for the first time, per Chevrolet. 2500 HD prices rise $1,000 to $1,500 depending on trim.

2027 Chevrolet Silverado HD Trim Levels

There are six 2027 Silverado HD trims: WT, Custom, LT, LTZ, ZR2 and High Country. Here's how they line up.

The WT is the work-first truck for fleets and jobsites. The Custom adds style for buyers who want a sharper truck without a luxury price, and for 2027 Chevrolet offers the Trail Boss package on the HD Custom for the first time. The LT is the versatile middle of the lineup. The LTZ moves into premium territory. The ZR2 is the off-road heavy-duty, with a lift, Multimatic DSSV dampers and 35-inch mud-terrain tires. The High Country is the luxury flagship.

Our Silverado HD trim levels page compares all six, with prices and what Chevrolet has confirmed for each trim.

Engine and Transmission

The 2027 Silverado HD offers two engines, a standard 6.6L gas V8 and an available 8.3L Duramax turbo-diesel V8. Both use an Allison 10-speed automatic.

8.3L Duramax turbo-diesel V8

The 8.3L Duramax makes 555 horsepower and 1,230 lb-ft of torque, which GM rates as best-in-class diesel horsepower and torque. It uses a compacted graphite iron block, a fully forged crankshaft and connecting rods, steel pistons and a variable-geometry turbocharger. GM builds it at its expanded DMAX plant in Brookville, Ohio, and invested $920 million to get the plant ready for it.

6.6L gas V8

The 6.6L gas V8 makes 412 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque. GM rates that as best-in-class standard torque among 2027 heavy-duty gas engines. Updates include a new intake manifold, an engine-mounted oil cooler, a revised lubrication system, updated emissions hardware and a digital oil-level readout. It's built in Tonawanda, New York, and it's a different engine from the 6.6L V8 in the Silverado 1500.

On the diesel, GM also redesigned the charge cooling, fuel injection and aftertreatment, the last one so the exhaust system can clean itself more easily during long tows. Exhaust braking is stronger too. The Allison 10-speed (GM's 10L1000) gets new shift logic.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy for the 2027 Silverado HD is not yet released. Heavy-duty pickups don't carry EPA mileage ratings, and GM hasn't published its own figures for the 8.3L or the updated 6.6L.

What GM has said is that the 8.3L's new aftertreatment layout is designed to handle its cleaning cycles better on long trips with a trailer.

Performance, Steering and Brakes

The biggest driving change for 2027 is electric power steering, which GM says has about 30% more power than the hydraulic system it replaces. It gives full assist regardless of engine speed, has built-in redundancy, and drops the pump, hoses and fluid that hydraulic steering needs.

The new eBoost brake system pairs with 14.6-inch front rotors and four-piston fixed front calipers. GM says pedal travel is shorter, and the system can spot problems like brake fade or a leak sooner. Steering and brakes no longer share one hydraulic source.

Drive modes

Normal mode is for everyday driving. Tow/Haul retunes the engine, shifts, exhaust brake, grade braking, steering and brakes for a load, and adds steering damping for trailer control. Off-Road lets the wheels slip more before traction and stability control step in. Terrain Mode, new on the ZR2, gives one-pedal off-road driving in 4HI and 4LO: lift off the accelerator and the truck brakes itself. GM says it's a first for its heavy-duty trucks.

Acceleration times and off-road measurements are not yet released.

2027 Chevrolet Silverado HD towing a trailer

Towing and Payload

A properly equipped 2027 Silverado HD tows up to 38,000 pounds with a gooseneck trailer and the 8.3L Duramax. GM rates conventional towing at up to 20,000 pounds and combined weight at up to 46,500 pounds on select configurations.

EngineMax towingMax payload
8.3L Duramax diesel38,000 lbs6,170 lbs
6.6L gas V819,000 lbs6,990 lbs

GM says every diesel dual-rear-wheel truck can tow 30,000 pounds or more. Chevrolet's maximum payload rating is higher with the gas V8 (6,990 pounds) than with the diesel (6,170 pounds), so a gas truck can make sense if the weight goes in the bed rather than behind it. Actual payload depends on configuration. For comparison, the 2026 Silverado HD topped out at 36,000 pounds.

Towing and payload vary by model, cab, bed, drivetrain and equipment. Ratings for each 2500 HD and 3500 HD configuration are not yet released, so check the label on the specific truck.

Trailering Technology

The 2027 Silverado HD offers up to 14 camera views, including Transparent Trailer View, Bed View and Surround Vision. Other available trailering features include an in-vehicle trailering app, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, and trailer tire pressure and temperature monitoring.

Those matter on the long grades around North Idaho. Tow/Haul mode works with the exhaust brake and grade braking to take load off the service brakes on the way down.

Interior Design

The 2027 Silverado HD cabin carries over, according to Edmunds. Chevrolet shows leather seating, rear climate vents and plenty of rear legroom, with two-tone perforated leather, contrast stitching and wood-grain trim on premium trims.

Standard interior equipment by trim is not yet released for 2027.

Bed and Cab Configurations

Cab and bed configurations for the 2027 Silverado HD are not yet released.

Chevrolet confirms the 2027 HD comes as a 2500 HD and a 3500 HD, and GM references dual-rear-wheel trucks in its towing figures. Chevrolet also lists the Multi-Flex tailgate and Durabed for 2027. We'll add cab, bed and wheelbase details when Chevrolet releases them.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Chevrolet lists a 13.4-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital driver display for the 2027 Silverado HD. Google built-in is available, Google Gemini works as an AI assistant, and OnStar Basics is standard for eight years, covering remote commands, Automatic Crash Response, real-time navigation and audio streaming apps.

Which trims get the 13.4-inch screen and the head-up display as standard is not yet released.

Technology

An oil level sensor is standard, and gas trucks show the oil level on the driver display. The eBoost brakes support Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic Emergency Braking.

Safety

The full standard safety feature list for the 2027 Silverado HD is not yet released.

What GM has confirmed: the new brake system supports Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic Emergency Braking, and Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert is available.

NHTSA and IIHS Safety Ratings

NHTSA and IIHS ratings for the 2027 Silverado HD are not yet released.

Warranty

Chevrolet's standard coverage is a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty and 5 years or 60,000 miles of roadside assistance, whichever comes first. GM hasn't published 2027 Silverado HD terms or any diesel-specific coverage for the 8.3L Duramax yet, so ask us to confirm on the truck you're buying.

Chevrolet also covers the first maintenance visit within 12 months: an oil and filter change, a tire rotation and a multi-point inspection, plus up to four gallons of diesel exhaust fluid on diesel trucks. Book it with our service department.
