2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Overview

2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Overview

The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a ground-up redesign with new styling, a new interior, seven trims and two new small-block V8s, a 5.7L and a 6.6L. Chevrolet calls it the most powerful Silverado ever, and the numbers back that up: up to 481 horsepower and a maximum tow rating of 13,700 pounds. Prices start at $41,395 including destination. Chevy expects the truck to go on sale at the end of 2026, and Knudtsen Chevrolet in Post Falls, Idaho is taking questions now from truck buyers across Coeur d'Alene, Spokane and North Idaho.

This page covers the whole truck. For deeper reading, see our 2027 Silverado 1500 trim levels guide and our blog post on the new 350 and 400 small-block V8s.

What's New for 2027?

Nearly everything is new for 2027, because this is a new generation of Silverado rather than a refresh. The big changes fall into five areas.

Under the hood, the 5.3L and 6.2L V8s are gone. In their place are a 5.7L V8 (350 cubic inches) and a 6.6L V8 (400 cubic inches) from GM's sixth-generation small-block family. The 2.7L TurboMax picks up 40 horsepower, and every engine now uses a 10-speed automatic.

The trim lineup shrinks to seven. The LT becomes a trim simply called Silverado, and the RST and LTZ names don't carry over. Three of the seven trims come lifted from the factory.

Inside, every trim gets a 16.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.2-inch digital driver display as standard, including the Work Truck.

Outside, the truck has a new front fascia, new LED headlights and taillights, bigger wheel-opening and rocker treatments, and dual exhaust on Custom and above.

For safety, four driver-assistance features are newly standard: Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert and Reverse Automatic Braking. Our full rundown of the 2027 redesign goes into each change.

2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Trim Levels

There are seven 2027 Silverado 1500 trims: Work Truck, Custom, Silverado, Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, High Country and ZR2. Here's the short version of each.

The Work Truck is built for fleets and jobsites, with an easy-clean interior and configurations ready for common upfits. The Custom adds dual exhaust and 20-inch Technical Gray wheels. The Silverado trim replaces the LT, and 4WD models get the Z71 package as standard. The Custom Trail Boss is the least expensive lifted truck, with a 2-inch lift and 34-inch tires. The Trail Boss adds mud-terrain tires, an off-road hood and monotube shocks. The High Country is the luxury flagship with a panoramic sunroof and Super Cruise. The ZR2 is the off-road flagship with 35-inch tires, front and rear lockers and Multimatic DSSV dampers.

Our trim levels page compares all seven in detail.

Engine and Transmission

The 2027 Silverado 1500 offers four engines, and all four use a 10-speed automatic transmission.

2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder

The 2.7L TurboMax makes 350 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, up 40 horsepower and 25 lb-ft from before. GM says that's the most standard torque in the class. It gets a new turbocharger, upgraded fuel injection and redesigned pistons.

5.7L V8

The 5.7L V8 makes 402 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque. It displaces exactly 350 cubic inches, and GM cast "350" into the block. It replaces the 5.3L, which made 355 horsepower, and it runs on regular 87-octane fuel.

6.6L V8

The 6.6L V8 makes 481 horsepower and 501 lb-ft of torque, which GM says is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the half-ton class. It's 400 cubic inches, uses a forged steel crankshaft, and premium fuel is recommended. It replaces the 6.2L, which made 420 horsepower.

3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel

The 3.0L Duramax inline-six makes 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, and it's the only diesel available in a half-ton pickup. For 2027 it gets revised pistons, turbocharger updates, a new NOx sensor and better injector corrosion protection.

Both new V8s use direct and port fuel injection, a new variable oil pump with an on-engine oil cooler, and Dynamic Fuel Management. They also drop the traditional dipstick: you check oil level on the in-cab screen. GM builds them at Flint Engine Operations in Michigan.

Fuel Economy

EPA fuel economy ratings for the gas engines are not yet released. We'll update this section when they're published.

The one official figure so far is GM's estimate for the 2WD Duramax diesel: 27 mpg highway. Paired with the available 34-gallon fuel tank, GM estimates that's over 900 miles of highway range.

Performance

Official acceleration times for the 2027 Silverado 1500 are not yet released. What Chevrolet has published is horsepower and torque for every engine, plus gearing.

The 6.6L V8 makes its 481 horsepower at 5,800 rpm. The Duramax makes its 495 lb-ft of torque at just 2,750 rpm, which is why it feels strong when loaded. The 10-speed's first gear is a short 4.70:1. V8 and diesel trucks use a 3.23 axle ratio, and the TurboMax uses 3.42.

Brakes are 13.5-inch vented rotors up front and 13.6-inch vented rotors in the rear. Off-road measurements such as ground clearance and approach angle are not yet released for the Trail Boss and ZR2.

Towing and Payload

The 2027 Silverado 1500 tows up to 13,700 pounds when properly equipped with the 5.7L V8 and Max Trailering Package. GM says that's the best in its class. The Max Trailering Package adds an extra-capacity cooling system.

EngineMax towingMax payload
5.7L V813,700 lbs2,170 lbs
3.0L Duramax diesel12,000 lbs1,870 lbs
6.6L V89,700 lbs1,510 lbs
2.7L TurboMax9,400 lbs2,340 lbs

Towing and payload vary by cab, bed, drivetrain, trim and packages, so check the label on the specific truck. Our 2027 Silverado towing guide explains why the 5.7L, not the bigger 6.6L, is the max-tow engine.

Interior Design

The 2027 Silverado's cabin is all new, with wider seats designed separately for each trim. Chevrolet kept physical switches for the most-used controls, so you aren't digging through menus to change the fan speed. A reconfigurable Multi-Flex center console adds storage. On the High Country, the front seatback folds into a flat work surface.

Trims get their own look. Trail Boss and ZR2 use Torch Red accents and Torch Red-edged seatbelts. The ZR2 adds real forged carbon-fiber trim, a first for GM. The High Country offers light and dark themes with real wood, Natural Tan-edged seatbelts, available microfiber suede and a Silverado-first panoramic sunroof.

Bed and Cab Configurations

The 2027 Silverado 1500 comes as a Regular Cab, Double Cab or Crew Cab.

CabBed lengthsFuel tank
Regular Cab6'6" or 8'28 gallons
Double Cab6'6"34 gallons available
Crew CabShort bed or 6'6"34 gallons available

Bed volume and interior cargo measurements are not yet released. Chevrolet's spec tables show the Duramax diesel only in Crew Cab configurations.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Every 2027 Silverado 1500 has a 16.3-inch center touchscreen and a 12.2-inch digital driver information center. Chevrolet says the touchscreen is the largest in the class. The ZR2 and High Country add an 11.5-inch front passenger screen, a head-up display and a rear camera mirror, for more than 60 inches of total screen. Dual wireless phone charging is available. Our 2027 Silverado interior and technology post walks through each screen.

Technology

The headline technology is Super Cruise, GM's hands-free driver assistance system, which also works while towing a trailer. It's standard on High Country and ZR2 and available on the Silverado trim and Trail Boss. Chevrolet says no other half-ton competitor offered hands-free driving with a trailer when it announced the truck. While towing, the lane-change features don't work, and the driver must always pay attention.

Super Cruise includes three years of OnStar service. After that, you need a paid Super Cruise plan.

Safety

Every 2027 Silverado 1500 comes standard with these driver-assistance features. The first four are new for 2027.

  • Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking
  • Side Bicyclist Alert
  • Reverse Automatic Braking
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Blind Zone Steering Assist
  • Rear Cross Traffic Braking
  • Rear Pedestrian Alert
  • Front and Rear Park Assist
  • IntelliBeam auto high beams
  • Safety Alert Seat
  • HD Rear Vision Camera

Having adaptive cruise and blind-zone steering assist standard on a Work Truck matters for fleet owners who put many different drivers behind the wheel.

NHTSA and IIHS Safety Ratings

NHTSA and IIHS crash-test ratings for the 2027 Silverado 1500 are not yet released. Because this is a new generation, ratings from earlier Silverados don't carry over. We'll update this section when either organization publishes results.

Warranty

The 2027 Silverado 1500 is covered by Chevrolet's 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. Roadside assistance runs 5 years or 60,000 miles. Corrosion coverage is 3 years or 36,000 miles, and rust-through coverage typically runs 6 years or 100,000 miles. Every limit is whichever comes first.

Chevrolet also covers the first maintenance visit within 12 months: an oil and filter change, a tire rotation and a multi-point inspection. Diesel owners also get up to four gallons of diesel exhaust fluid. Book it with our service department.
