2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Towing Guide

2027 Silverado 1500 Towing Guide: Max Ratings, Payload and Trailer Tech

The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 tows up to 13,700 pounds, a number Chevrolet calls best in class. Only one setup gets there, though: a 2WD Double Cab with the standard bed, the 5.7L V8 and the Max Trailering Package. Every engine has its own max, and each one comes from a specific cab, bed and drivetrain. If you're pulling a boat or camper out of Post Falls, here's what each engine is rated for and what it takes to get that number.

For the rest of the truck, see our 2027 Silverado 1500 overview and the trim levels guide.

13,700 lbsMax towing (5.7L V8)
2,340 lbsMax payload (TurboMax)
13,600 lbsSuper Cruise towing limit
7,200 lbsMinimum rating, every model

Max Towing by Engine

Max towing runs from 9,400 pounds with the TurboMax to 13,700 pounds with the 5.7L V8. Each figure below is for a properly equipped truck in the exact configuration GM lists.

EngineMax towingConfiguration required
5.7L V813,700 lbsDouble Cab, Standard Bed, 2WD, Max Trailering Package
3.0L Duramax diesel12,000 lbsCrew Cab, Short Bed, 4WD, Max Trailering Package
6.6L V89,700 lbsCrew Cab, Short or Standard Bed, 4WD
2.7L TurboMax9,400 lbsRegular Cab, Long Bed, 2WD

Chevrolet.com says every 2027 Silverado is rated to tow at least 7,200 pounds. GM also notes these maximums are meant for comparison only, which is a fair warning: a 5.7L truck with a different cab, bed or drivetrain may not match the 13,700 figure.

Payload by Engine

Max payload runs from 1,510 pounds with the 6.6L to 2,340 pounds with the TurboMax.

EngineMax payloadConfiguration
2.7L TurboMax2,340 lbsRegular Cab, Standard Bed, 2WD
5.7L V82,170 lbsRegular Cab, Long Bed, 2WD
3.0L Duramax diesel1,870 lbsCrew Cab, Short Bed, 2WD
6.6L V81,510 lbsZR2 Crew Cab, Short Bed, 4WD

The max-payload trucks aren't the same trucks as the max-tow trucks. Two of the four top payload figures come from Regular Cab 2WD trucks, and the 5.7L and Duramax max-tow figures come from Double Cab and Crew Cab trucks. If you haul and tow, check both numbers on the specific truck.

Why the 5.7L, Not the 6.6L, Holds the Max Rating

The 5.7L is rated 4,000 pounds higher than the 6.6L (13,700 versus 9,700), even though the 6.6L makes 79 more horsepower.

GM hasn't published a reason in the sources we checked. What we can tell you is what the numbers show. GM Authority points out that the Max Trailering Package isn't listed with the 6.6L, and says that helps explain the lower rating. GM's own footnotes back up the difference in setup: the 5.7L's 13,700 figure uses the Max Trailering Package, and the 6.6L's 9,700 figure doesn't list one. The 6.6L figure also comes from a Crew Cab 4WD rather than a Double Cab 2WD.

GM Authority also compared the new ratings with 2026. By its math, the 5.7L tows 2,400 pounds more than the old 5.3L, while the 6.6L tows 3,500 pounds less than the old 6.2L's 13,200. It puts the TurboMax 100 pounds lower and the Duramax 1,300 pounds lower than before.

The practical takeaway: if your trailer is over 9,700 pounds, the 6.6L isn't your engine. Our post on the 2027 Silverado's new 350 and 400 V8s covers how the engines compare beyond towing.

Trailering Technology

GM lists up to 11 available cameras and two new trailering features for 2027: boat ramp assist and a Trailer Brake Gain Assistant, which GM calls an industry first.

The cameras include Hitch View, the rear camera mirror and underbody cameras. The ZR2 and Trail Boss get up to 19 camera views, though GM notes some views need an accessory camera. Hitch Guidance with Hitch View is listed on the Custom. AutoGuide reports the Work Truck and Custom get a standard 12,000-pound hitch and an integrated trailer brake controller. The rear camera mirror is standard on the High Country and ZR2.

The new GM interface also changes when a trailer is connected, according to Work Truck Online. Trailering information appears in the driver display, a trailering card shows up on the center screen, and you can check the trailer's brake, turn, reverse and running lights from a connected phone.

Super Cruise While Towing

Super Cruise supports hands-free driving with a trailer up to 13,600 pounds. That's 100 pounds less than the truck's 13,700-pound max tow rating, so hands-free towing doesn't cover a trailer at the full max.

Lane Change on Demand and Automatic Lane Change are not available while you're towing. Super Cruise is standard on the High Country and ZR2 with 3 years of the OnStar One plan, and available on the Silverado and Trail Boss. After the included period, you'll need an active Super Cruise plan. GM says the system works on about 630,000 miles of compatible North American roads.

Ratings Vary by Configuration

Every number on this page is a maximum for one configuration, and per-trim towing and payload ratings are not yet released.

GM ties each maximum to a specific cab, bed, drivetrain and package, so the same engine can carry a different rating in a different truck. For reference, the V8s and the diesel use a 3.23 axle ratio, and the TurboMax uses 3.42. Before you hitch up, check the ratings for the exact truck you're buying.

Per-trim towing and payload charts and the Max Trailering Package's contents are not yet released. We'll update this guide when Chevrolet publishes them.

2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Redesign: What Changed From 2026

Knudtsen Chevrolet› Blog› 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Redesign: Every Change From 2026 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Redesign: Every Change From 2026 The 2027 Silverado 1500 is all-new, and GM calls it the most powerful and advanced Silverado ever. GM Authority counts it as the first year of the fifth-generation truck. The trim count drops from nine to seven, both V8s are new, every trim gets a 16.3-inch touchscreen, and Super Cruise is now offered on four trims. Here's each change, trim by trim and system by system, from the Knudtsen Chevrolet team in Post Falls. Our 2027 Silverado 1500 overview covers the whole truck in one place. This post sticks to what's different from 2026. 7 trims Work Truck to ZR2 $41,395 Starting price incl. destination 16.3 in Touchscreen on every trim Late 2026 Expected on sale New Inventory Pre-owned Inventory New Vehicle Specials Contact Us Exterior Styling Every 2027 Silverado gets new LED headlights and taillights as standard, set into a new front fascia. The Drive describes the headlights as a stacked design with a thin upper light and a C-shaped lower element. The wheel-opening moldings and rocker treatments are more pronounced, and The Drive notes the bed skin is reworked too. Dual exhaust is now standard on Custom and every trim above it. Some trims get their own pieces. The High Country has an exclusive Tritan Satin grille, a new High Country badge and 22-inch After Midnight-painted wheels. The ZR2 rides on 35-inch mud-terrain tires, and both Trail Boss models get a 2-inch lift and 34-inch mud-terrain tires. Trims: Nine Becomes Seven The 2027 lineup has seven trims, and GM Authority reports that's down from nine. Here they are with GM's starting prices, which include the $2,795 destination charge. 2027 trim Key 2027 detail Starting price Work Truck Duramax diesel now offered $41,395 Custom Dual exhaust, 20-inch Technical Gray wheels $46,395 Silverado New name for the LT $50,695 Custom Trail Boss 2-inch lift, 34-inch MT tires $57,195 Trail Boss Was LT Trail Boss, per GM Authority $63,995 High Country Standard panoramic sunroof and Super Cruise $74,495 ZR2 Standard Super Cruise, new Baja drive mode $79,995 GM lists the trim as "Silverado (formerly LT)," and Chevrolet.com labels it Silverado (LT/Z71). On Silverado-trim 4WD models, the Z71 Off-Road package (skid plates, hill descent control and off-road suspension) is now standard. GM Authority reports the RST and LTZ are discontinued. Its writer guesses the Silverado trim covers those buyers too, but says that's his own assumption. The 2027 Silverado trim levels guide compares all seven, and the Silverado trim page covers the old LT's replacement. ZR2 Bison Edition pricing is not yet released. Engines Two of the four engines are new: a 402-horsepower 5.7L V8 replaces the 5.3L, and a 481-horsepower 6.6L V8 replaces the 6.2L. The 2.7L TurboMax gains 40 horsepower (now 350) and swaps its 8-speed automatic for a 10-speed, so every engine uses the 10-speed. The 3.0L Duramax keeps the same 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft, according to Edmunds, but it's now offered on more trims, including the Work Truck. Edmunds reports there's no hybrid for 2027. Every Silverado keeps a column shifter, per The Drive. Towing moves around, too. GM Authority figures the 5.7L's 13,700-pound max is 2,400 pounds more than the old 5.3L could tow. Our post on the new 350 and 400 small-block V8s has the full engine story, and the 2027 Silverado towing guide covers every rating. Interior and Screens Every trim, Work Truck included, now has a 16.3-inch center touchscreen and a 12.2-inch digital driver display. They run GM's new interface with Google built-in (Google Gemini, Google Maps and Google Play apps) plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The High Country and ZR2 add an 11.5-inch front passenger screen, a head-up display and a rear camera mirror, for more than 60 inches of combined displays. The cabin also gets a panoramic sunroof, a Silverado first. It's standard on High Country and available on ZR2, Trail Boss and Silverado. A reconfigurable Multi-Flex center console is available. Materials split by trim: real wood on the High Country, real forged carbon-fiber trim on the ZR2, and fabric accent inserts on the Trail Boss. Our 2027 Silverado interior and technology post goes trim by trim. Safety Four driver-assistance features are newly standard for 2027, and GM Authority says none of them were offered on the Silverado 1500 before. Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking Reverse Automatic Braking Side Bicyclist Alert Chevrolet says every Silverado has more than 15 standard safety and driver assistance features. GM Authority lists Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Zone Steering Assist and Forward Collision Alert as standard on all trims. A Cabin Glance interior camera is standard on High Country and ZR2 and available on the others. Super Cruise Super Cruise is standard on 2 trims, the High Country and ZR2, and available on 2 more, the Silverado and Trail Boss. The ZR2 is the big change here, because The Drive notes the outgoing ZR2 didn't offer Super Cruise at all. The system now supports hands-free driving with a trailer up to 13,600 pounds, though Lane Change on Demand and Automatic Lane Change are switched off while towing. It also adds a 3D view of traffic, lane markings and objects. GM says it covers about 630,000 miles of compatible North American roads. Standard Super Cruise includes 3 years of the OnStar One plan, and after that you need an active Super Cruise plan. Pricing and Launch Timing Prices run from $41,395 to $79,995 including destination, and GM expects the truck to go on sale at the end of 2026. Chevrolet.com lists the truck as available late 2026, with orders opening later this year. GM Authority reports the V8 trucks launch first, starting with the Trail Boss, ZR2 and High Country, and that TurboMax production ramps toward the latter half of the first quarter of 2027. If that holds, TurboMax trucks will show up after the V8 trucks. Want to be near the front of the line? Meet the All-New 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The All-New 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500: Everything That Changed The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a ground-up redesign, and almost nothing carries over untouched. Chevrolet revealed it on June 16, 2026, calls it the most powerful Silverado ever, and expects it to go on sale at the end of 2026. It has a new body, a new cabin built around a 16.3-inch touchscreen on every trim, a reshuffled seven-trim lineup that starts at $41,395, and a set of engines that brings back a famous number. Is the 2027 Silverado 1500 a full redesign or a refresh? It's a full redesign. Chevrolet started over on the exterior, the interior, the trim structure and the engine family, which is a much bigger change than the mid-cycle updates truck shoppers are used to seeing. For comparison, Ford's 2027 F-150 is a refresh. It's still the sibling of the GMC Sierra 1500. If you want the spec-sheet version of everything below, our 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 overview keeps it all in one place. What does the new Silverado look like? The 2027 Silverado has a bolder stance, a new front fascia, new LED headlights and taillights, and wheel openings and rocker panels that are more sharply defined than before. Each trim gets its own lighting signature, so you'll be able to tell a Trail Boss from a High Country at night. Dual exhaust is now standard on Custom and every trim above it. Wheels run from 17-inch steel on work-focused trucks up to 22-inch aluminum. There are three new paint colors, Apex Red, Pacific Blue Metallic and Trillium Green Metallic (all premium, extra-cost colors), joining White Sands, Summit White, Polar White Tricoat, Black, Riptide Blue Metallic and Sterling Gray Metallic. New packages include a Chrome Exterior Package and a Texas Edition. What screens and interior tech come in the 2027 Silverado? Every 2027 Silverado, including the Work Truck, gets a 16.3-inch center touchscreen and a 12.2-inch digital driver display as standard equipment. Chevrolet says that center screen is the largest in the class. The ZR2 and High Country go further with a standard 11.5-inch front passenger screen, a head-up display and a rear camera mirror, which adds up to more than 60 inches of total screen. The good news for people who hate hunting through menus: Chevy kept physical switches for the controls you use most. The seats are all-new and wider, with designs specific to each trim. Dual wireless charging and a reconfigurable Multi-Flex center console are available. What are the 2027 Silverado 1500 trims and prices? There are seven trims, with starting MSRPs (including destination) from $41,395 to $79,995. The LT name is gone, replaced by a trim simply called Silverado, and the RST and LTZ aren't part of the 2027 lineup. Here's the ladder. The 2027 Silverado Work Truck starts at $41,395. It's built for fleet and commercial buyers, with an easy-clean interior and a setup that suits common upfits for construction, utilities and municipal work. It still gets the new screens and the full standard safety list. The Custom starts at $46,395 and now includes dual exhaust and 20-inch Technical Gray machine-faced wheels. The new Silverado trim starts at $50,695. In 4WD form it comes with the Z71 package standard (skid plates, hill descent control and off-road suspension), and Super Cruise is available. The Custom Trail Boss, at $57,195, is the entry point to the lifted trucks, with a 2-inch lift and 34-inch tires. The 2027 Silverado Trail Boss at $63,995 adds 34-inch mud-terrain tires, a dedicated off-road hood, monotube shocks and two unique interior themes. The 2027 Silverado High Country starts at $74,495. It trades the old Western look for darker satin finishes, a Tritan Satin grille and 22-inch After Midnight wheels, and it's the first Silverado with a panoramic sunroof. Super Cruise, Adaptive Ride Control and the passenger screen are standard. The ZR2 tops the lineup at $79,995. Chevy calls it the most off-road capable ZR2 yet, with 35-inch mud-terrain tires, a 2-inch lift, front and rear e-lockers, Multimatic DSSV dampers and GM's first use of forged carbon-fiber trim. An AEV-built ZR2 Bison edition is also available. We'll go through every trim in detail later this month. For now, our 2027 Silverado trim levels page lays out the full comparison. What engines are available in the 2027 Silverado? The 2027 Silverado offers four engines, all paired with a 10-speed automatic: a 350-hp 2.7L TurboMax, a 402-hp 5.7L V8, a 481-hp 6.6L V8 and a 305-hp 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel. There's no hybrid. The base TurboMax gains 40 horsepower and 25 lb-ft over last year, for 350 hp and 455 lb-ft, and it moves from an 8-speed to the 10-speed. GM says that's the best standard torque in the class. The two V8s are all-new Gen 6 small-blocks. The 5.7L displaces exactly 350 cubic inches and replaces the 5.3L; it's also the max-tow engine, rated up to 13,700 pounds with the Max Trailering package, which GM says is best in class. The 6.6L, at 400 cubic inches, replaces the 6.2L and makes 481 hp and 501 lb-ft, which GM says makes it the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the half-ton class. The 3.0L Duramax stays the only diesel offered in a half-ton. As always, towing and payload vary by configuration, trim and packages, so check the exact truck before you hitch up. And yes, the 350 is back. There's a lot more to say about these new V8s than fits here, so we're giving them their own post on October 12: The 350 Is Back: 2027 Silverado engine options explained. What safety features are standard on the 2027 Silverado? Every 2027 Silverado adds four new standard safety systems: Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert and Reverse Automatic Braking. They join a standard list that already includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Alert, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Front and Rear Park Assist, Rear Pedestrian Alert, IntelliBeam, the Safety Alert Seat and an HD Rear Vision Camera. Can Super Cruise work while towing a trailer? Yes. On the 2027 Silverado, Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance works while you're towing, and Chevrolet says that's exclusive in the segment. Ford has announced its own hands-free towing feature for the 2027 F-150, so expect that claim to get contested. Super Cruise is standard on High Country and ZR2 and available on the Silverado and Trail Boss trims. A few limits apply. Lane Change on Demand and automatic lane changes are turned off while trailering, and the driver still has to pay attention to the road.
